The Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks proposes new regulations and expanded deer hunting opportunities within state wildlife management areas (WMAs). Key changes include clarifying the rules surrounding cased vehicles for transporting firearms and allowing the use of tracking dogs for recovering wounded deer, emphasizing the commitment to both safety and the humane treatment of animals.
In addition to regulatory updates, the proposals aim to enhance the hunting experience at popular WMAs. For instance, hunters may soon have the chance to pursue deer after 1 p.m. on days when morning duck hunts are conducted. This move is expected to create more opportunities for hunters without causing conflicts between different user groups. The 30-day public comment period on these proposals is currently open, with a final vote projected in May.
