Last year, 550 firearms were reported stolen from vehicles, prompting state legislators to pass House Bill 24-1348, which establishes strict guidelines for how handguns must be stored when left in cars. Under the new regulations, handguns must be secured in a locked hard-sided container out of plain view or stored in the locked trunk, while other firearms must be similarly secured, with additional requirements for soft-sided containers.
