New York Lawmakers Target Convertible Handguns

New York legislators are advocating for a ban on the sale of handguns that can be easily converted into machine guns using illegal aftermarket devices known as “Glock switches.” These devices allow a semi-automatic Glock handgun to fire continuously, posing significant risks to public safety, as evidenced by rising criminal activity linked to these modified firearms across various New York cities.

The proposed legislation, spearheaded by State Senator Zellnor Myrie and Assemblymember Michaelle Solages, aims to hold gun manufacturers accountable for producing firearms that can be easily modified. Lawmakers emphasize that until manufacturers enhance their designs to prevent such dangerous conversions, these lethal weapons should not be available for sale in New York.
