A 65-year-old man from North Andover has been sentenced to 63 months in prison after an explosion at his home uncovered more than 30 illegal firearms. Daniel Medina, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing weapons, was found with a collection that included 12 rifles, 15 pistols, and three shotguns, along with significant quantities of ammunition and explosive materials.
The event unfolded on July 1, 2024, when police responded to reports of an explosion that damaged two vehicles in the area. Investigators discovered homemade explosive device materials and, during a search of Medina’s residence, evidence of illegal weapons and a Glock switch device was seized, further raising concerns about public safety. Medina’s previous conviction for assault and battery barred him from firearm possession, leading to his guilty plea on charges related to the illegal weapons and explosives found in his home.
