Two Oakland men are facing serious charges after a robbery attempt turned fatal, resulting in the death of 33-year-old Roosevelt Jones. Police say Jones and his cousin, Jashawndre Upshaw, approached a victim outside a nightclub armed with a gun, but the intended target fought back, shooting Jones multiple times before he succumbed to his injuries shortly after midnight on April 19.
Upshaw, who brought his mortally wounded cousin to the hospital, is now charged with murder under an indictment that holds him accountable for the events surrounding the robbery. Surveillance footage contradicted Upshaw’s alibi, showing him dressed identically to Jones at the time of the incident. Police arrested him on April 21, and as he faces charges of murder and attempted robbery, court records indicate he has prior convictions for robbery and gun possession.
