A 36-year-old man died after being shot by a Stuart Police Department officer when he allegedly charged at the officer while wielding a large knife. The incident occurred on Saturday morning around 7 a.m. at the Sierra Condominiums, following reports of an individual acting erratically in the area.
Surveillance footage captured the moments leading up to the shooting, where the officer briefly converses with the man before he suddenly lunges forward with the weapon. In response to what was deemed an immediate threat, the officer fired his weapon, ultimately leading to the man’s death at the hospital. Following the shooting, the officer has been placed on administrative leave, and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
