Pennsylvania’s deer hunters report a significant increase in their harvest, with an estimated total of 476,880 deer taken during the 2024-25 hunting season, up nearly 47,000 from the previous year. This total includes 175,280 antlered deer and 301,600 antlerless, marking an 11% rise in deer harvested statewide, the Pennsylvania Game Commission announced.
Notably, approximately 28% of hunters successfully harvested an antlered deer, the highest rate seen since the late 1980s. Additionally, most of the increase stems from antlerless deer, as hunters aim to manage populations affected by Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). The Game Commission emphasizes analyzing trends over longer periods to assess deer management strategies effectively.
