Portland Reports 30% Drop in Gun Violence in 2025

Portland experiences a nearly 30% decrease in gun violence in early 2025, marking a significant decline after years of rising rates following the pandemic. In April alone, the city reported approximately 41 shootings, among the lowest monthly totals in the past four years, bringing the overall number of reported shootings down to about 202 for the year so far.

This decline follows a 28-day period with zero homicides until a recent shooting interrupted the streak, highlighting a pivotal moment in Portland’s ongoing efforts to curb violence. The Portland Police Bureau attributes part of this reduction to community intervention teams focused on firearm removal and crime prevention, fostering optimism that the trend may continue as the warmer months approach.
