The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has announced major improvements to its Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) permit application process, reducing wait times from 18 months to approximately eight months. Under Sheriff Kelly Martinez’s leadership, these changes aim to make the application process more efficient and user-friendly, allowing residents to apply online and receive determinations within about 90 days.
In addition to streamlining the process, the sheriff’s office is addressing staffing challenges and implementing technology enhancements, including a new program called CCW Pro. This initiative is set to automate status updates and notifications for applicants, further cutting down on wait times in the future. These efforts underscore a commitment to balancing public safety with the rights of law-abiding citizens seeking to secure CCW permits in San Diego County.
