Senate Judiciary Pushes DOJ on J6 Human Sources Inquiry

The Senate Judiciary Committee raises questions about the presence of confidential human sources during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, following statements from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz. In a letter sent to the DOJ, senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson seek further details on whether any untasked sources were in the area, pointing out that Horowitz’s previous assurances that no sources were assigned to the event lack verification on the movement of individuals who may have been there independently.

The inquiry not only probes the involvement of various agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, but also requests specifics on communications surrounding the presence of these sources. The senators express concern over incomplete responses regarding records and messages, which they say are critical to understanding the full context of events surrounding the riot. With their persistent follow-up, they underscore the significance of accountability and transparency in the investigation.
