Shreveport’s Crime Rate Falls as Gun Seizures Rise

The Shreveport Police Department reports a remarkable 44% decline in violent crime this year, prompting a strategic shift toward addressing quality of life crimes such as prostitution and theft. Concurrently, police have seized approximately 500 illegal firearms, many from individuals prohibited from owning guns, including felons connected to violent offenses. Police officials emphasize that targeting these illegal weapons and the individuals carrying them is crucial for further reducing crime rates.

As the summer months approach, the police remain focused on maintaining public safety by continuing their efforts to remove firearms from the streets. Recently implemented measures, like a squatting ordinance, have already led to 33 arrests and a noted decrease in squatting incidents. With ongoing challenges in combating prostitution, the department employs undercover operations and online surveillance to disrupt trafficking networks, showcasing a comprehensive approach to community safety.
