Austin-based startup Allen Control Systems is pioneering a novel approach to countering military drones by developing an AI-driven gun system named Bullfrog that uses standard ballistic technology. The Bullfrog aims to address the challenges that advanced drones pose by accurately targeting them with conventional bullets, utilizing AI and computer vision for rapid engagement that outpaces human operators.
In recent tests, the Bullfrog successfully shot down seven target drones during a demonstration for the U.S. Army, highlighting its potential effectiveness in modern warfare. This lightweight system, expected to reduce the “cost per kill” to just a few dollars, represents a shift towards automated defense, anticipating a future where robotic technology plays a central role in military engagements.
