This decision follows a series of laws enacted by state Democrats after the landmark Bruen ruling, which had previously championed Second Amendment rights by striking down overly restrictive laws, including the Sullivan law, that made carrying firearms nearly impossible for law-abiding citizens.
The new restrictions require gun permit applicants to submit their social media accounts for scrutiny and demonstrate “good moral character,” raising concerns about governmental overreach in constitutional rights. Additionally, the state’s definition of “sensitive places” where firearms are banned now includes a significantly expanded Times Square area, placing law-abiding gun owners at risk of unintentionally breaking the law.
