A suspect is now in custody after an armed robbery occurred early Sunday morning at the Handy Mart in Washington, North Carolina. At approximately 7:00 AM, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a masked man with a weapon demanding money from the store’s cash register, triggering an immediate response from patrol deputies.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Sonny Ray Cobb Jr., was apprehended after deputies located his vehicle, leading to a traffic stop without incident. Charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, Cobb is currently held in the Beaufort County Detention Center without bond. Authorities assure the community that there is no ongoing threat and are treating the incident as isolated.
