An 18-year-old suspect, Leonidas Velghe, is in custody following an armed robbery involving stolen guns at the Checkered Flag Market in Madisonville, Tennessee. Police responded to the scene around 11 p.m. on Sunday, where witnesses reported seeing an armed individual fleeing on foot. Officers quickly apprehended Velghe nearby and discovered two pistols along with a backpack filled with store merchandise. The young man admitted the firearms were stolen during a previous burglary.
At the crime scene, law enforcement found over a dozen spent 9mm rounds along with several bullet holes in the store’s walls and windows, although no employees were present during the incident. Velghe now faces charges of aggravated burglary and is held without bond at the Monroe County Justice Center. The Madisonville Police Department commended Delta Shift for their rapid response that led to the suspect’s capture. The investigation is ongoing, and police are inviting anyone with information about the stolen firearms to come forward.
