TSA officers at Buffalo Niagara International Airport recently intercepted two loaded handguns within five days, highlighting ongoing security challenges at airports. A Grand Island man was caught with a 9mm handgun loaded with 13 bullets on March 21, followed by a Williamsville man apprehended with another 9mm handgun loaded with nine bullets on March 26.
Both individuals had valid New York State pistol permits and now face a Notice of Violation for their actions, which TSA officials describe as reckless. TSA regulations permit firearms only in checked baggage, properly locked, and declared at check-in. The consequences could include civil penalties up to $15,000, raising questions about travelers’ awareness of firearm security protocols.
