Las Cruces police have arrested two suspects linked to a mass shooting at Young Park that resulted in three fatalities and 15 injuries. The incident occurred during an unauthorized car show, drawing a crowd of around 200 people when chaos erupted just after 10 p.m. on Friday night, leading to a scene littered with 50 to 60 shell casings indicative of multiple shooters. Police Chief Jeremy Story indicated that both suspects, including a 20-year-old named Tomas Rivas and a 17-year-old whose identity remains confidential, face three counts of murder.
The victims of the shooting include two teenagers, Andrew Madrid, 16, and Jason Gomez, 18, who died on-site, alongside 19-year-old Dominick Estrada, who succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. As police continue their investigation and gather evidence, Young Park remains closed, while the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico has initiated a fundraising campaign for the victims’ families. This incident highlights ongoing concerns around public safety during large, unsanctioned gatherings.
