Two Arrested for Illegal Firearm Purchase in Virginia Beach

The Virginia Beach Police Department recently arrested two men in connection with an illegal firearm purchase, raising concerns over community safety. Darien Smith, a 26-year-old convicted felon, is accused of soliciting 27-year-old Raeqwon Williams to buy a gun on his behalf, leading to serious charges against both parties.

Smith was apprehended on February 17 and faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and drug-related offenses. Williams was arrested later, in April, for engaging in a straw purchase and failing to complete necessary background checks. VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate emphasized the department’s commitment to preventing firearms from reaching those legally prohibited from having them, noting the importance of ongoing investigations into similar illegal transactions.
