Two Arrested in Newton Drive Armed Robbery

The Statesville Police Department has arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery that occurred early Sunday morning at a store on Newton Drive. Joseph Nicholas Sherrill and Thomas Joshua Byers, both 34 and from Statesville, are charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Felony Conspiracy after allegedly entering the store with a handgun and demanding cash from an employee.

Police utilized their Verkada camera system to identify the suspects and the getaway vehicle, a black 2001 Honda Accord, which was later spotted in Wilkesboro. Officers successfully located the vehicle, apprehended the suspects during a traffic stop, and recovered the handgun believed to have been used in the robbery. Both men are being held without bond as the investigation continues.
