A U.S. security guard has been banned from entering Canada for one year after he was caught with disassembled parts of an illegal handgun while crossing the Blue Water Bridge. Kyle Jones, working for an unnamed hip hop artist on tour, initially claimed he had no firearms when approached by border officers, but his deception was uncovered when a handgun recoil spring and other parts were found concealed on the tour bus.
The incident occurred on September 11, as Jones and the artist’s entourage traveled from Detroit to Toronto for a concert. Although he faced two charges under the Customs Act, prosecutors found no intent to use the gun in Canada, leading to a plea deal resulting in a single offense charge of making a false statement. The case underscores the serious repercussions of misleading border service officials, as noted by federal prosecutor Brian Higgins, who emphasized the importance of maintaining border security integrity.
