Authorities in Sebastian County seize approximately two dozen firearms, primarily rifles, from a convicted felon during a traffic stop on April 4. This incident is notable because, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), rifles accounted for only 426 of the 3,494 firearms recovered in Arkansas in 2022, making this seizure particularly unusual.
During the stop, deputies discovered body armor and several rifle cases in the vehicle, leading to the recovery of stolen firearms as well. The suspect faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon. The incident has provoked further investigation by the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office, who commented that confiscated weapons are often linked to crimes and their fate is ultimately determined by the court system.
