This law, passed during the 2025 Legislative Session, mandates that public colleges and universities in Wyoming allow concealed carry, following Governor Mark Gordon’s decision to let the bill become law without his signature.
The new policy, which will take effect on July 1, specifies certain exceptions, prohibiting firearms in certain laboratory spaces, early childhood education centers, and sporting events where alcohol is served. Additionally, it requires that firearms not in use be stored in biometric lockboxes, striking a balance between the new legal allowance and safety considerations. The board’s earlier vote in November to adopt a similar policy failed narrowly, suggesting a significant shift in institutional response to legislative pressure.
