A 24-year-old Vancouver man, Andy Emre Gencoglu, faces multiple firearms charges following a joint investigation by B.C.’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). The investigation was initiated after authorities seized suspicious packages at the U.S.-Canada border in June 2023, leading to searches of a Richmond business and a Vancouver home that reportedly revealed evidence of an organized gun importation scheme.
Cpl. Sarbjit K. Sangha of the enforcement unit stated that the charges against Gencoglu include smuggling restricted and prohibited firearms as well as importing unauthorized devices. This case underscores the ongoing risk of gun smuggling that threatens public safety and highlights the commitment of law enforcement to fight illegal trafficking. Gencoglu has been released pending court dates but is barred from weapon possession.
