A 19-year-old Waco man, Zemarion Akil Benjamin, is arrested after a foot chase related to a shooting that damaged nearby homes, just five days after allegedly robbing a 14-year-old. In the June 12 incident, Benjamin reportedly struck the victim with a handgun after stealing his backpack, which contained another firearm. Police responded to a report of gunfire on Carter Drive, where Benjamin was found with another suspect, leading to his arrest amid concerns for public safety.
During the police chase, officers discovered multiple shell casings and noted the potential injuries of the 16-year-old companion found with Benjamin. While the minor was examined for possible gunshot wounds, he ultimately did not sustain serious injuries. Benjamin now faces charges for both the armed robbery and deadly conduct, with bail set at $770,000, leaving many to question safety and accountability in the community.
