West Columbia Man Gets 15 Years for Gun Possession

A West Columbia man, Terry Leslie Washington, faces 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to illegally possessing a firearm as a felon. A federal judge imposed the sentence, which follows Washington’s prior convictions for armed robbery and other serious offenses, making him prohibited from firearm possession.

The case began when a Columbia police officer pulled Washington over for a traffic violation, during which he discovered a loaded 9mm pistol, marijuana, and psilocybin mushrooms in Washington’s vehicle. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle gun violence and illegal drug use in the community.
