This initiative aims to enhance firearm safety in homes, particularly for families with children, as highlighted by Police Chief Joe Sullivan and Dr. Kim Molik, a pediatric trauma surgeon who has seen a concerning rise in firearm injuries among children.
Residents can obtain these safety devices without requiring identification at various locations, including the Wichita Police Department and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. With six pediatric firearm injuries reported this year alone, authorities emphasize the need for responsible gun ownership and secure storage to prevent tragedies that, according to Chief Sullivan, are entirely preventable.
