Yecenia Granados, 35, pleads guilty to aggravated battery in a case involving the armed robbery and murder of Edward Williams Jr., receiving a 23-year prison sentence. Granados lured Williams to his apartment in December 2021, where her accomplice, Michael E. James, fatally shot him during the robbery. As part of a plea agreement, she testified against James, who was found guilty of first-degree murder and is set to be sentenced soon.
In court, Williams’ family expressed their anguish and condemnation of Granados, with his sister describing her as a “monster” for her actions. Kane County Judge David Kliment accepted the plea deal due to Granados’ cooperation, emphasizing that the sentence would have been significantly longer had it not been for her testimony. Granados will be eligible for parole after serving at least 19 years of her sentence, having already spent over three years in jail awaiting trial.
