Lawrence police officers shot a woman after she allegedly killed her dog and pointed a firearm at them during a confrontational encounter late Sunday night. Responding to a 911 call regarding a woman with a gun, officers found her inside a garage, where she disregarded commands and subsequently shot the dog before raising the weapon towards herself and the officers.
After an officer fired a single shot, striking her in the shoulder, she was given immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition at Methodist Hospital. Facing serious charges including felony firearm pointing and animal cruelty, the incident has prompted an internal investigation, which is standard procedure following officer-involved shootings.
