66-Year-Old Arrested in Sparta Armed Robbery Case

A 66-year-old man, William Lawless, is in custody following an armed robbery investigation at Lollie’s Restaurant in Sparta, Illinois. The incident, which occurred on March 4, involved a suspect threatening employees who maintain gambling machines, using a green cloth to imply he was armed while demanding money.

Sparta Police swiftly responded to a 911 call, setting up a perimeter and utilizing a K9 unit and drone to locate the suspect. Lawless was ultimately found at his home with evidence linking him to the crime, leading to his charge of armed robbery and subsequent detention at Randolph County Jail.
