What to Know About Pocket Holsters
Pocket holsters are designed to be carried inside your pocket, though some double as inside-the-waistband (IWB) holsters, too. The holster uses friction and/or pressure of the pocket or waistband to secure the firearm and holster. Yet, this friction also offers a smooth draw while leaving the holster in the pocket or waistband.
Pocket holsters are ideal for many small-frame handguns. Larger frame pistols might not be as concealable using a pocket holster, as they’re bulky. Some pocket holsters also have an additional clip to secure the holster to the pocket.
Holsters that are designed for semi-automatic handguns might not be appropriate for revolvers, but many manufacturers offer pocket holsters for both autos and revolvers.
What to Consider Before Buying a Pocket Holster
There are a number of factors you should keep in mind when you purchase a pocket holster.
Your Dominant Hand
This doesn’t matter so much with most pocket holsters. However, holsters that have additional pocket clips will not be ambidextrous, so if you’re looking at one of these, make sure you purchase the correct right- or left-handed model for your dominant hand.
Concealed Carry Regulations
As a gun owner, it’s your responsibility to know and stay up-to-date with any concealed carry regulations in your state, county, and city. This includes any locations you may travel to while going to and from work. What is okay in your county may not be if you cross the boundary line, so make sure you’re aware of all regulations in your general area.
Wardrobe
Pocket holsters work well in many cases. But, they’re best for deep pockets such as slacks or cargo pants. Women’s jeans are notorious for tiny front pockets; you’ll probably never find a firearm to carry in these pockets. Most pocket holsters are designed to use friction, so loose pockets like in shorts may not work well with these holsters unless the holster has an additional clip.
Best Pocket Holster Brands
Several companies produce pocket holsters, so we’re going to take a closer look at some of the more popular brands available today.
1. Sticky Holsters Pocket Holster (Best Glock 43 Pocket Holster)
Sticky Holsters are soft pocket or inside-the-waistband (IWB) holsters with a sticky outer material meant to grab and provide friction when placed in the pocket or waistband. They come in small, medium, and large, and those three sizes have additional sizes as well. Some are even designed to use handguns with accessories such as laser sights.
The Pocket Holster isn’t molded to fit, but the models not intended for use with laser sights are stitched to form around the trigger guard. One holster fits different firearms, so if you have two similar-sized pistols, one Pocket Holster might work for both, giving you more carry options.
These holsters are ambidextrous so that you can carry the same holster both right- and left-handed. They don’t have additional clips and slip into your pocket with ease. The outer material grabs your clothing, offering a smooth draw.
Sticky Holsters can be used for both revolvers and semi-automatic firearms.
2. Pocket Holsters by DeSantis (Best Glock 42 Pocket Holster)
DeSantis offers several different pocket holsters. These are the Nemesis, Pocket Shot, Pocket Tuk, Super Fly, and The Trickster. The Ammo Nemesis and Cargo Nemesis offer spare magazine holders integrated into the holster. All these holsters are ambidextrous except for the Pocket Tuk.
The Pocket Tuk is the only one with a pocket clip, and it can be adjusted for cant (carry angle) as well as ride height. But when used with the clip, this holster is for right-handed orientation only. The clip can easily be removed for pocket or inside the waistband (IWB) carry.
These holsters are either nylon or leather (Pocket Shot, Pocket Tuk, and Trickster). The Pocket Shot is unique in that it’s designed to look like a wallet, but is intended to stay on the firearm when drawn and shot. It protects your trigger guard while in your pocket, but has a finger hole to allow quick access to your trigger. It’s illegal in California.
3. Pocket Holsters by Don’t Tread on Me (Best Ruger LCP Pocket Holster)
Don’t Tread on Me Holsters offers six different sizes of nylon pocket holsters with clips, as well as a leather holster with a trigger hole designed to be left on the firearm when drawn. This leather holster is only available for the Ruger LCP but may fit a couple of other similar-framed pistols. This wallet holster is likely illegal in California, as it’s similar to the DeSantis Pocket Shot.
Pocket Holsters CC1 through CC6 is designed for a range of handguns, both revolvers, and semi-automatics. Each of these holsters comes with a removable pocket or inside-the-waistband (IWB) clip. When used with the clip, these holsters are for right-hand only.
The interior of the holster is smooth nylon, allowing for a quick draw. It’s also padded to break up the profile of the firearm when used as a pocket holster.
Don’t Tread on Me offers a 1-year warranty on all their holsters, but their website also says, “We will make things right no matter how long you have owned them.”
4. Ambidextrous UTG Pocket Holster by Leapers, Inc. (Sig P365 Pocket Holster)
This is an inexpensive nylon pocket holster with a pocket for ID, credit cards, or cash. Special non-slip bands across the holster helps to keep it in place when carrying or drawing. There are three sizes of holsters, and they’re not formed or stitched to specific firearms.
The UTG Holster isn’t contoured to the shape of specific pistols. It has a relatively square profile, but some pistols may sit too deeply in the holster, creating a delay in draw.
The 3.4-inch holster is for .22 to .25 caliber semi-automatic handguns. The 3.6-inch holster is for .380 autos, and the 3.9-inch holster is meant for subcompact 9mm and .40 caliber automatic pistols.
5. Inside the Pocket Holsters by Uncle Mike’s
Uncle Mike’s produces contoured nylon pocket holsters in 4 sizes ranging from small, .22 to .25 autos to 9mm/.40 caliber autos. Size 3 is also suitable for 5-shot revolvers.
These closed-end holsters help keep pocket debris clear of the muzzle. And a non-slip band secures the holster when drawing. It also protects trigger or magazine releases.
Final Comments
Pocket holsters can be an excellent way to carry a firearm concealed. They’re easy to use, fit securely into a pocket, and offer a smooth draw. They can be made of leather or nylon, and some are even designed to be kept on the pistol while shooting (these are, however, illegal in California).
Before you decide to carry a concealed firearm, it’s imperative that you familiarize yourself with gun carry regulations in your state, county, and city. It’s your responsibility as a gun owner to learn and stay abreast of all regulations pertaining to your area, especially if you travel across boundary lines.
The Pocket Holsters by Sticky Holsters is a perfect way to carry your concealed firearm. They offer excellent firearm retention and a smooth draw when needed. These holsters are easily concealed in a pocket, but double as an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster.
There are even models available to accommodate firearms with additional accessories such as laser sights. For the price, you won’t get a better concealed carry option.

Have a Diamondback Firearms DB9, 9mm with 6 rounds in clip. fully loaded weighs less than 1 pound Length .625 by 4.0 inches. Barrel length 2.9 inches. Which Sticky pocket holster would be the best match (righted hand)?
Thanks
Just tried a Sticky holster and found it lacking for loose pockets. 80% of the time it came out of my pocket with the gun – a Beretta Bobcat.
A much better choice are the holsters by the original makers of “sticky” holsters – Remora.
I have 2 and they have been functional for over 8 years!
I like Uncle George’s Wallet Holster. It’s made of real leather and fits in the back pocket nicely.
