Two pro-Palestinian protesters have caused significant disruption in Edinburgh after damaging an international arms manufacturer’s building, amounting to over £150,000 in costs. Silas Curtis and Ludovico Caminati vandalized the Leonardo UK premises, cutting through fences, throwing paint on vehicles, and breaking skylights during their rooftop demonstration that drew a large police response, including armed units and helicopters.
Despite the extensive damage and public safety concerns, both protesters escaped jail time due to their status as first-time offenders. Sentenced to complete 270 hours of community service and wear electronic tags, the case sheds light on the tensions surrounding arms manufacturers’ roles in global conflicts, particularly concerning the Israeli-Palestinian situation. Their actions stemmed from a desire to bring attention to perceived injustices, raising questions about the balance between protest and legal consequences.
