Glock Switch Ban Advances in Alabama Legislation

The Alabama House Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security has approved a bill that classifies the possession of Glock switches as a Class C felony, a significant step towards stricter gun regulations in the state. This legislation, introduced by Sen. Will Barfoot, R-Montgomery, would impose penalties ranging from 366 days to 10 years for those caught with devices designed to convert pistols into machine guns, addressing a growing concern over gun violence.

Currently, there are no state laws banning Glock switches, which are already illegal at the federal level. Rep. Philip Ensler, who presented the bill, emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting the immediate need for legal action against these devices that can facilitate rapid-fire gun use. As the bill heads to the House floor for a full vote, it reflects ongoing debates about gun safety and regulation in Alabama, as well as the balance between Second Amendment rights and public safety.
