Advocates Launch Campaign to Protect Gun Law in Mass.

A coalition of gun violence prevention advocates in Massachusetts has initiated a campaign to maintain a key gun law that opponents seek to repeal in the upcoming 2026 elections. The “Vote Yes for a Safe Massachusetts” campaign highlights the law’s role in diminishing gun violence, as it imposes restrictions like banning individuals under 21 from owning semiautomatic rifles and implementing new training requirements for firearm owners.

While supporters assert that these regulations are essential for community safety, the group aiming for repeal, known as The Civil Rights Coalition, criticizes the law as an infringement on rights. They have gathered over 90,000 signatures to push a repeal question onto the ballot. As the debate intensifies, advocates emphasize that strong firearm policies are crucial for preventing further tragedies, with personal testimonies underscoring the community’s stakes in this legislation.
