A proposed bill in Montana seeks to establish a community fund designed to support rural towns that thrive on hunting and fishing tourism. If passed, the legislation would allow hunters and anglers to voluntarily contribute when purchasing licenses, creating grants for communities with populations under 7,500 to fund local projects, from educational improvements to community services.
House Rep. Tom France, who previously introduced similar legislation that didn’t pass, believes this initiative can provide much-needed resources to towns like Wolf Creek and Ekalaka. With the bill already advancing through the House Fish, Wildlife and Parks committee, it highlights the growing recognition of the economic benefits these outdoor activities bring to rural areas.
