A Brooklyn resident, Mansuri Manuchekhri, is arrested for allegedly funneling $70,000 to individuals connected with ISIS and exercising at a shooting range. According to federal prosecutors, Manuchekhri, a Tajik citizen, transmitted the funds between December 2021 and April 2023 to support the group’s fighters and their dependents, with some money purportedly linked to a violent attack planned for January 2024 in Istanbul.
In addition to the funding allegations, Manuchekhri faces charges of illegal firearm possession and immigration fraud, having entered into a fraudulent marriage to gain citizenship status. Disturbingly, a family member notified authorities in August 2024, expressing fears of his radicalization and potential for violence, which has raised significant concerns about his willingness to commit acts of terror. He could face a lengthy prison sentence of up to 45 years if convicted on all counts.
