In its first six months, the Hope and Shield Network, a collaboration among the City of Cincinnati, University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, reports a strong enrollment of 50 participants in its violence intervention program. Targeting youth and young victims, the initiative connects individuals who have experienced gun violence with professionals who provide essential resources such as mental health support, housing, and employment assistance.
Notably, none of the enrolled participants have fallen victim to gun violence since their enrollment, marking a significant early success for the program. As the partnership continues its goal of reaching 150 to 200 participants annually, the initiative also boasts success stories, including patients returning to school and securing employment. This program represents a proactive step in the city’s efforts to combat gun violence and support affected individuals.
