Fayetteville Mayor Proposes Curfew Amid Gun Violence Surge

Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin advocates for a 9 p.m. curfew for unattended minors following a weekend marked by three shootings in just six hours. This proposal comes in the wake of heightened concerns about safety, particularly after an incident during the Dogwood Festival, a local tradition, where gunfire erupted but thankfully resulted in no injuries.

Along with the curfew, Colvin considers declaring a state of emergency and has outlined plans for stricter penalties for non-compliant parents. Additional measures include enhanced surveillance technology and increased security presence at public events, reflecting the urgency to confront the city’s recent spike in gun violence. “We are committed to keeping our community safe,” Colvin stated, urging greater public cooperation.
