A two-year-old boy tragically dies from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after locating an unsecured firearm in his mother’s bedroom in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, prompting an urgent response from law enforcement following a distressing emergency call regarding the shooting.
The firearm, reportedly belonging to the child’s mother’s fiancé, was left “out in the open,” which raised serious concerns about gun safety, especially since an infant was also present in the home at the time. Port St. Lucie Police Chief Leo Niemczyk emphasized the critical importance of securing firearms around children, stating, “Don’t ever assume that the child is too young to get ahold of that gun.” Investigators are continuing to assess the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
