A 28-year-old man from Joplin, David Cox, has turned himself in to police following an armed bank robbery that occurred on Saturday at the Commerce Bank. Wearing a mask and dark clothing, Cox handed a note to a teller demanding money for his sick daughter while brandishing a gun from a cross-body bag, ultimately leaving with $200. Shortly after the incident, he described his actions as “a bad idea” before fleeing toward a nearby wooded area.
Police were able to identify Cox through tips from anonymous callers who recognized his tattoos. During a follow-up phone conversation with officers, he confessed to the crime and is now being held in the Joplin City Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond. Additionally, court documents reveal that he may be connected to a home invasion that occurred the same week as the robbery, raising further concerns about his activities.
