A Justin police officer fatally shot a 54-year-old man armed with a gun during a traffic stop on Sunday evening. The incident unfolded when the officer attempted to pull over a vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Eric Michael Watkins, fled and exited the car with a firearm, leading to a confrontation in a residential backyard.
Despite orders to drop the weapon, Watkins reportedly raised it in a threatening manner, prompting the officer to fire. Although life-saving measures were administered, Watkins was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital. The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave while the Texas Rangers conduct an investigation into the shooting.
