Kinston Police have arrested 24-year-old Jakeithan Gowans for possessing a concealed semi-automatic shotgun after responding to a report of a breaking and entering on Marilyn Drive. Officers discovered Gowans attempting to place a window screen back into position and found the shotgun hidden in his waistband during their investigation.
Despite the serious firearm charge, the individuals who reported the incident chose not to pursue any action regarding the break-in, citing a familial relationship with Gowans. Alongside the firearms charge, Gowans was also served with an outstanding warrant for an unrelated matter, adding complexity to the case.
