Marrero Man Sentenced for Drug and Gun Offenses

A 28-year-old Marrero man, Tyrique Richards, is sentenced to 66 months in prison for narcotics and gun offenses related to a crackdown on violent crime coordinated by the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative. U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier issued the sentence after Richards pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his arrest on February 27, 2024, where he was found in possession of marijuana, cocaine, a digital scale, and a Glock firearm.

As part of his sentencing, Richards is not only facing prison time but will also be under supervised release for three years and must pay a mandatory special assessment fee. This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement, including the FBI’s New Orleans Gang Task Force, to address serious crime in the community, part of a wider strategy revitalized in 2021 to foster neighborhood safety and support violence prevention initiatives.
