A 68-year-old school district safety officer is in critical but stable condition after being shot multiple times during a road rage incident on Columbus Boulevard in Philadelphia early Sunday morning. The officer, who was on duty at the time, was flagged down by a driver reporting an altercation on Interstate 95 when a second vehicle, a white Hyundai SUV, opened fire, striking him in the face, arm, and body before crashing into a tree.
The incident is tied to a road rage confrontation involving the Hyundai and a black Dodge pickup truck. Initial investigations suggest the safety officer attempted to intervene when the shooting began. With over 20 years of service in school security and a background as a retired police officer, the victim has been part of the Philadelphia community’s safety efforts, including working at a shelter for displaced residents. Authorities have yet to make any arrests as the investigation continues, with multiple shell casings found at the scene.
