Despite repeated attempts by Democratic lawmakers to introduce measures like universal background checks and safe storage laws, these proposals rarely advance in the state legislature. Leading advocates, including Michelle Heym from Moms Demand Action, believe a ballot measure may be necessary to counteract the lack of legislative action and hope it could reflect the will of the Ohio populace, similar to recent successful initiatives on abortion rights and marijuana legalization.
