The Ohio Supreme Court has declined to hear a case that aimed to stop deer hunting in Mill Creek Park, allowing the controversial management program to continue despite ongoing legal challenges. Attorney Mark Dann, representing local residents opposed to the hunts, expressed disappointment but noted their efforts would shift towards legislative action against the park’s management board.
The park’s board approved the hunts to address an overpopulation of white-tailed deer, which they argue poses a threat to local vegetation. Opponents have raised safety concerns throughout the legal proceedings, which included an appeal following a ruling from the Seventh District Court of Appeals that affirmed the hunts as lawful. In response to the court’s decision, Mill Creek MetroParks Executive Director Aaron Young stated their commitment to maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
