Police officers fatally shot a man brandishing a sword during an incident in Poughkeepsie on Thursday afternoon. The confrontation unfolded around 2:15 p.m. after the Dutchess County Mobile Crisis Team responded to an assault involving the suspect, who was reported to be attacking team members inside a residence on Fair Oaks Drive.
Upon their arrival, authorities found two individuals inside, including one with a head injury. During the ensuing altercation, at least one officer fired at the suspect, striking him. Following attempts to administer first aid, he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The New York State Attorney General’s office has now taken charge of the investigation into this incident, which highlights the ongoing scrutiny of law enforcement actions in such situations.
