DHS Announces ‘Zero Tolerance’ Policy After Cop Shooting

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) implements a ‘zero tolerance’ policy for attacks on federal officers and property following a shooting incident near an ICE detention center in Texas. The directive comes after a local police officer was shot in the neck while responding to a suspicious person with a firearm close to the Prairieland Detention Facility, demonstrating heightened tensions around federal facilities.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasizes that the DOJ is “closely monitoring” incidents, which have also included clashes in Portland, Oregon, where demonstrators engaged with federal law enforcement. In Texas, several suspects were apprehended after opening fire on approaching officers, escalating concerns over safety at DHS locations. The injured officer was hospitalized but has since been released, raising questions about the broader implications of these violent encounters.
