Gun Violence Drops Sharply in Indianapolis for 2025

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) reports a significant drop in gun violence for 2025, with nearly 100 fewer victims of non-fatal shootings compared to the previous year. Deputy Chief Kendale Adams highlighted a 47% homicide case closure rate, the highest since he took his position, reflecting ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime.

Despite the encouraging numbers, Adams recognizes that many challenges remain, including the need for better conflict resolution among community members and concerns about the prevalence of illegal firearms. The IMPD Criminal Investigations Division continues to engage with the public and strengthen community partnerships to sustain this positive trend into 2026.
