This weekend, Richmond leaders and community organizations are set to host a series of events focusing on gun violence awareness in 15 targeted neighborhoods, including Gilpin Court. This initiative occurs as part of a nationwide effort to honor lives lost to gun violence and foster community engagement around prevention strategies. With direct involvement from local officials and the NAACP, discussions will provide residents with resources and solutions to combat violence.
Among the highlights, a remembrance and healing day will take place at Giles Creek Park, followed by a community gathering at Main Line Brewery, where survivors will share their stories. “If we all participate and come together, I’m hopeful things will slow down,” says JJ Minor from the Richmond NAACP, emphasizing the need for collective action in addressing the impacts of violence. This day aims to spark vital conversations and empower residents to play an active role in their community’s safety.
