Roanoke Police Report: Shooting Stats Steady Year Over Year

Statistics from the Roanoke Police Department reveal that shooting incidents in the city, both fatal and non-fatal, have remained largely unchanged over the past year. Notably, there were no fatalities from gun violence in January for both this year and last, though non-fatal shootings reported increased slightly from four to five incidents.

Renea Taylor, co-founder of the nonprofit organization FEDUP With Gun Violence, emphasizes that the data may not capture all occurrences, urging community members to report any escalating situations. “Communication, communicating these occurrences to the police is key,” Taylor states, highlighting the importance of community involvement in addressing gun violence. This local nonprofit provides vital support to families affected by shootings, underscoring the ongoing need for awareness and action in Roanoke.
